What happens when three up-and-coming musicians meet each other for the first time and collaboratively explore freedom in music?  Pixie People, that’s what – a debut album that defies labels, traditions, and expectations.  577 Records introduces Shrunk, a revolutionary new duo from Germany featuring guitarist Werner Neumann and drummer Laurids Richter.

Humble innovators Neumann and Richter formed Shrunk as an unorthodox platform for unlimited, untethered, non-conforming collaboration with artists from diverse genres and styles.  They are united in pioneering a new frontier in the music arts that liberates skillful expression from stylistic clichés.  They aren’t just thinking outside the box; they’re getting rid of the box entirely.

Featured in Shrunk’s debut album is talented violinist Fabiana Striffler (artist nominated in the Strings category for the German Jazz Prize), whose contributions help the group blaze a new trail in spontaneous music.  The arrangement isn’t intended to be viewed as an abstract performance or a conventional art form.  Rather, it presents as a social event that deliberately escapes dogmatism and uniquely marries experimentalism, texture, and simplicity.

Recorded at Berlin’s Soundfabrik, Pixie People is a ten-track improvised musical encounter that varies in intensity, mood, composition, and direction. It’s an enthralling instrumental conversation that never slips into randomness while still magically retaining a captivating arbitrary flair. It gives wild and engaging experimentation with a hint of whimsy.
